Warwick Business School Seeks Dynamism in Move to the Shard: MBA News
Up on the 17th floor of the latest iconic addition to London’s skyline - the Shard - lies Warwick Business School’s (WBS) new base of operations in the capital.
In January, the school will begin offering executive education courses and a part-time finance MSc from its new location, before rolling out its EMBA program from the Shard next fall.
However, WBS – as well as the wider University of Warwick - unsurprisingly wants to make full use of its attractive location:
“Flexibility was key, so that our space could be used for the university more broadly, hosting academic conferences or high-profile events, for example,” Warwick Business School COO, Gareth Bennett, explains in a new report for the Shard.
The school’s presence in the building designed by Renzo Piano takes up 60% of the space available on the 17th floor and features two lecture theatres capable of accommodating 120 people as well as a high-tech IT suite.
The Shard targeted for its ‘bold statement’ says WBS dean
The move to the Shard was targeted by Warwick Business School – not just for the chance to put much of London within easy reach, including Canary Wharf and the City, but more as a signal of intent:
“The actual building itself is a bold statement. In a very symbolic sense, locating in the Shard seemed the right thing to do. It is a young, exciting building — it has such an innovative design by Renzo Piano — it fits in with our ethos of being young and dynamic,” Warwick Business School’s dean, Mark Taylor, told the Gulf Times.
